Hyaluronic Acid for Hair Growth

Hyaluronic Acid for Hair Growth

If health and beauty are important to you, you've likely heard about the benefits of using hyaluronic acid to smooth, moisturize, and rejuvenate your skin. But did you know that using hyaluronic acid for hair growth can effectively combat hair loss symptoms, dry skin and frizzy hair?

The scalp experts at Divi combined hyaluronic acid with additional clean ingredients like eucalyptus oil, copper tripeptide, peppermint oil and more to create our exclusive Scalp Serum. We developed a formula to target the root causes of hair loss, giving your scalp and strands an energizing boost to stimulate growth and make your locks shine like the sun, regardless of your hair type.

So, how does hyaluronic acid promote hair growth? Keep reading, as Divi’s scalp experts will explain everything you need to know about hair loss and adding hyaluronic acid into your hair care regimen through our premium-quality Scalp Serum.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

If you own a TV or use the internet, you've probably seen ads for facial and body moisturizers, serums, eye creams, wrinkle removers and so on that contain hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid provides favorable properties for the skin, often applied through hyaluronic hair masks or topical serums beneficial for hair and scalp health.

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, which means it retains moisture. That's why it's so beneficial for dry, aging or irritated skin. It's also much cleaner than other common skincare ingredients, which means it's safer for sensitive skin and is unlikely to cause an adverse reaction. Plus, it's a substance made in the body, specifically in the eyes, skin and the fluid inside joints.

Here are some of the many biological benefits hyaluronic acid provides:

Flexibility – Hyaluronic acid is a gooey, sticky substance that helps your skin remain elastic and flexible. Its properties help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Hydration – Did you know hyaluronic acid can hold more than its weight in water? It's a superior moisturizer, which is why it's often a primary ingredient in skin creams. Those same hydration properties benefit dry, moisture-starved hair as your body slows down its production of hyaluronic acid.

Soothing – If you use hyaluronic acid topically on your skin, it can reduce the symptoms of redness, wrinkles and dermatitis. Dermatitis is a common condition suffered by many men and women, which results in an itchy, flaky scalp and hair loss. Hyaluronic acid can relieve these symptoms, resulting in optimal scalp health.

What Type of Hair Loss and Scalp Conditions Can Hyaluronic Acid and Divi’s Hair Serum Treat?

For men and women suffering from hair loss, hyaluronic acid may be a solution. Hyaluronic acid is one of the best ingredients for combating the signs of hair loss, creating a healthy follicular environment, supporting scalp health, and promoting new hair growth. Let's dive deeper into the benefits of using this clean, science-backed ingredient and how it can help you support your hair and scalp health and regain confidence.

Itchy, Flaky, Dry Scalp

An itchy, flaky, dry scalp isn't just annoying; it can also feel embarrassing. If you're tired of the constant scratching and irritation, hyaluronic acid may help those conditions. Remember that hyaluronic acid is a humectant. It brings moisture to your scalp and then seals it for superior hydration, boosting your body's collagen. It's particularly beneficial in the winter when the bitterly cold weather makes your skin extra dry.

Seborrheic Dermatitis

Seborrheic dermatitis is essentially chronic eczema that occurs on the scalp, eyebrows, beard, mustache, hair or wherever the body has oil-producing glands. People who suffer from this condition have patches of greasy, inflamed and itchy skin with scales or crust, a rash and excessive dandruff. Although it doesn't cause permanent hair loss, it's an annoyingly persistent condition that typically requires treatment to control.

Furthermore, the direct causes of seborrheic dermatitis are challenging to pin down. However, research has proven the efficacy and safety of a topical solution consisting of an anti-inflammatory and hyaluronic acid to treat cases of seborrheic dermatitis in people ages 18-75.

In this study, the researchers assessed the results at weeks 2, 4 and 8. Ultimately, the topical solution of hyaluronic acid and sodium salt gel improved conditions by 65.48% from the beginning of the study to week 8. At week 4, the size, redness and itchiness of the subjects' dermatitis decreased by 76.9%, 64.3% and 50%, respectively. By week 8, 92.3% of the subjects saw an improvement in their conditions. In addition, none of the participants experienced tolerance issues or adverse side effects.

Eczema

Eczema can cause dry skin, itching and irritation in men and women, affecting the scalp and potentially resulting in hair loss. Typically, treatment for eczema involves medications that aim to improve the skin's barrier function, thus improving moisture retention and fostering an environment that will result in healing. Research shows that a pH-neutral hyaluronic acid can effectively treat eczema by preventing irritation and inhibiting the skin’s ability to lose water.

In this study, the researchers evaluated the safety and efficacy of using hyaluronic acid emollient foam on 20 subjects who had mild to moderate cases of eczema on their bodies. The results showed statistically significant improvement in all signs of eczema for participants who used hyaluronic acid. As you can see, using this humectant can effectively treat people with scalp eczema, reducing the amount of dry skin and improving scalp health overall.

Alopecia

The most common cause of hair loss in men and women is a genetic predisposition known as androgenetic alopecia. The condition will affect half of all men and a quarter of all women by age 50 and is characterized by thinning and shedding on the top and crown of the head. For some people, this condition becomes permanent when the body doesn't have enough blood vessels encompassing the hair follicles to deliver the vitamins, nutrients and other essential molecules the body needs to produce healthy, thick hair.

Hyaluronic acid may be able to address this condition as well. One recent study examined treatment methods for male-pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) using hyaluronic acid patches. When researchers applied the patches to the test subjects, rapid pigmentation occurred and their bodies produced a compound that only appears during the phase of new hair growth. Furthermore, these test subjects showed a reduction in oxidative stress. The researchers determined that using these patches ultimately fostered quicker hair growth.

Frizzy, Unruly and Dry Hair

Is there anything worse than waking up, looking in the mirror, and realizing you're having a bad hair day? If you suffer from dry, frizzy hair, hyaluronic acid is an effective way to treat your hair. Remember how we stated that hyaluronic acid could hold its weight in water? Well, just a quarter of a teaspoon of hyaluronic acid holds up to a gallon and a half of water!

By applying hyaluronic acid to your hair, you can utilize this humectant as a way to retain moisture for smooth, silky and shiny hair. Also, by limiting the amount of moisture you lose through your skin's barrier, hyaluronic acid can create a healthy follicular environment that optimizes your hair and scalp health.

Potential Precautions for Using Hyaluronic Acid

Current research shows no indication that topical use of hyaluronic acid causes adverse or unwanted side effects. It's safe for your hair and skin, even for people who have sensitivities. Remember, your body naturally produces hyaluronic acid, and evidence shows that there’s no risk to supplementing your body’s production with topical application.

Although Divi’s products have been tested for safety, it is always a good idea to check with your doctor or medical care provider before you add any new supplement or product to your daily beauty regimen. In particular, pregnant or nursing women should always check with their doctor before using any new products.
